The call of street vendors in Latin America is an unforgettable sound. Lidia Handal’s Honduran classic El Bananero (the banana vendor) reminds me of those entertaining experiences.

The bananero tells about his canto alegre (happy song) that he sings as he sells his oro verde (green gold). His alegre pregón is his “merry call” advertising his merchandise.
