¡Viva viernes!     (Long live Friday! In other words, TGIF!)

La fecha es el once (11) de marzo del año dos mil veintidós. (The date is March 11, 2022.)

The late Arlen Siu Bermúdez told the story of so many struggling Nicaraguans in her poem María Rural (Rural María), which was interpreted into a song by Grupo Pancasán.

María represents a typical, rural Nicaraguan woman with a life full of hard labor and poverty. She is referred to as madre del campo (mother of the field). The lines “Desnutrición y pobreza / Es lo que a vos te rodea” describe the sad circumstances of a large portion of the population at that time. They translate to: “Malnutrition and poverty / Is what surrounds you.”
