Orejitas, which means “little ears,” are French cookies that are popular around the world. Palmiers, meaning “palm trees” in French, is short for “palm tree leaves.” In Spain, they are called palmeras (palm trees), and in Latin American countries, they are referred to as orejas (ears), orejitas (the name used in Panama), and palmeritas (little palm trees). In English, in addition to the original French name palmiers, they are referred to as “elephant ears,” “palm hearts,” and “pig ears.”
