¡Viva viernes!     (Long live Friday! In other words, TGIF!)0

La fecha es el cuatro (4) de marzo del año dos mil veintidós. (The date is March 4, 2022.)

Mexican composer Quirino Mendoza y Cortés’ Cielito Lindo has become an international symbol of Mexico. The song is often performed accompanied by mariachis. Today, we’re listening to Carlos Rivera’s upbeat interpretation of this classic.

Cielito lindo is a term of endearment that can be interpreted as “beautiful darling.” The key line of the song says, “Canta y no llores” (sing and don’t cry). It continues, “porque cantando se alegran, cielito lindo, los corazones” (because singing gladdens hearts).
