¡Viva viernes! (Long live Friday! In other words, TGIF!)
La fecha es el once (11) de febrero del año dos mil veintidós. (The date is February 11, 2022.)
As Valentine’s Day draws closer, love and hearts are on many people’s minds. Las Hijas del Sol (which means “the daughters of the sun”) are sisters from Equatorial Guinea who sing to a loved one in ¡Ay, corazón!.
Ay is a word of exclamation like the term “oh” in English. Corazón literally means “heart,” but in the context of the song, it is used as a term of endearment, similar to “honey,” “dear,” or “darling” in English.
The key lines of the song are: “No me digas que no” (Don’t tell me no) and “Acércate un poco más” (Come a little closer).
Other lines in the song demonstrate the intense emotions that we feel when we’re in love. For example, one line goes, “Me sube la tensión tan solo pensar en ti,” which means, “My blood pressure rises when I just think of you.”
Ready to dance and sing about your volcanic love? ¡Bailemos y cantemos! (Let’s dance and sing!) Go to this link for la letra (the lyrics).
¡Que tengas un viernes vivaz! (May you have a vivacious Friday!)
