¡Viva viernes!     (Long live Friday! In other words, TGIF!)

La fecha es el catorce (14) de enero del año dos mil veintidós. (The date is January 14, 2022.)

In recent months, I have been feeling very nostalgic. Do you have a long-lost love that you’ve been separated from by distance? The legendary Ecuadorian singer Julio Jaramillo sings about a love that has endured distance and years in the classic Novia Provinciana. 

Novia provinciana means “provincial girlfriend.” The singer is telling his novia whom he promised that he would return to throw the anillo (ring) he gave her into an arroyo (stream) by a sauce llorón (weeping willow) because of his traición (betrayal).
