¡Viva viernes!     (Long live Friday! In other words, TGIF!)

La fecha es el veinte (20) de septiembre del año dos mil veinticuatro. (The date is September 20 , 2024.)

This week, I invite you to a ballroom for Ecuadorian singer Máxima Mejía’s classic vals (waltz) Ventanita (Little Window).

“Ventanita, ventanita silenciosa, estás triste y desolada como yo” (Little window, silent little window, you’re sad and devastated like me),

“Ya no asoma en tus cristales la preciosa compañera que se fue y nos olvidó” (The precious companion that left and forgot us no longer appears in your panes).

“Ya las flores del jardín están marchitas porque al irse su rocío les negó” (Now the flowers from the garden are withered because upon leaving she denied them of their dew).

“Sólo quedan unas cuantas margaritas que su mano al despedirse las regó” (Only a few daisies are left since her hand watered them upon saying goodbye).

“Con aquellas margaritas, ventanita, haré un ramo y en tu alero lo pondré” (With those daisies, little window, I will make a bouquet and put it on your eaves),

“Pero un día no muy lejos, ventanita, con aquellas margaritas, moriré” (But one day not far off, little window, with those daisies, I will die).

¡Bailemos! (Let’s dance!) Sing along to la letra (the lyrics).

¡Que tengas un viernes ventajoso!     (May you have a favorable Friday!)

L. A. Feliz
