¡Viva viernes!       (Long live Friday! In other words, TGIF!)

La fecha es el tres (3) de mayo del año dos mil veinticuatro. (The date is May 3, 2024.)

In the spirit of the nostalgia that I have been feeling for my own hometown, I am sharing the classic Mexican ballad Canción Mixteca (Southern Mexican Song). The version I’m sharing is performed by Patricia Trujano Granados in Spanish and Nahuatl, an Aztec language.

“Qué lejos estoy del cielo donde he nacido” (How far I am from the sky where I was born).

“Inmensa nostalgia invade mi pensamiento” (Immense nostalgia invades my thoughts).

“Al verme tan solo y triste cual hoja al viento, quisiera llorar, quisiera morir de sentimiento” (On seeing myself so lonely and sad like a leaf in the wind, I want to cry, I want to die from sentiment).

“¡Oh, tierra del sol! Suspiro por verte” (Oh, land of the sun, I long to see you!)

“Ahora que lejos yo vivo sin luz, sin amor” (Now, how far I live without light, without love).

¡Cantemos y reflexionemos! (Let’s sing and reflect!) You can sing along to la letra (the lyrics).

¡Que tengas un viernes visualizado!       (May you have a visualized Friday!)
