Guantanamera is possibly the most well-known classic Cuban song. The title of Compay Segundo’s song refers to a girl or woman from Guantánamo, Cuba. In the song, guantanamera is followed by guajira, which refers to a girl or woman from the country.

Let’s take a closer look a some of the verses from this iconic song:

“Yo soy un hombre sincero de donde crece la palma” (I’m a sincere man from the place where the palm tree grows).
